Formed in 1950s-1960s, Chengdu’s industry currently includes 38 industrial categories and 184 subcategories. It has relatively complete integrated industrial system which enjoys certain comparison advantages. Hence, Chengdu is the most important industrial base of Sichuan province, even of western China.

Chengdu Hi-tech Development Zone
Located in southwest Chengdu, this development zone covers an area of 67km2 and is mainly used for electronic information and modern traditional Chinese medicine industries. It is positioned as an international manufacturing base focusing on IT and bio-pharmaceutical industries.

Chengdu Export Processing Zone
Chengdu Export Processing Zone is in Chengdu Hi-tech Development Zone and is mainly used to encourage enterprises engaged in processing electronic information, biological traditional Chinese medicine, precision machinery, opto-mechatronics integration, food and agricultural byproducts to enter and develop here.

Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone
This zone is mainly utilized for processing machineries (dominated by producing automobiles, motorcycles and their spare parts and components), electronic elements and components, new-type materials, bio-pharmaceutical and food.

Jinjiang Industry Development Area
This area is mainly established for tobacco processing and supporting business, printing business dominated by newspaper printing and decoration as well as food manufacturing dominated dairies.

Qingyang Industrial Development Area
Covering an area of 3557mu, this area is mainly used for machinery manufacturing industry dominated by aviation products, garment manufacturing industry and food manufacturing industry dominated by dairies.

This area is mainly used to develop household appliance manufacturing industry, environmental protection machinery manufacturing industry and building material industry dominated by building decoration materials.

Qingbaijiang Industry Concentration Development Area
Located in northeast of Chengdu urban area, this area is a base for Chengdu’s metallurgy, chemical, machinery, building material and logistics industries. The planned area is 19km2 and it will be enlarged to 30km2 in mid-and-long term.

Jintang Industry Concentration Development Area
This area is mainly engaged in machinery manufacturing (metal works), food (medicines), garment production, new-type building materials, etc.

With a planned area of 24km2, this area manly focuses on developing photovoltaic optoelectronic and electromechanical industries.

Chengdu National Cross-strait Science and Technology Industrial Park
As the only national level cross-strait science and technology industrial development park in west China, this park is a place where important Taiwan investors of Chengdu and Sichuan province gathers, functioning as an important high-end manufacturing base and production service base of Chengdu. It is mainly used to develop manufacturing of electromechanical, food & drinks and bio-pharmaceutical industries.

Capacity of Industrial Economy Realizes Leaping Growth by Taking Transportation Hub Advantages
In April 2013, Chengdu-Europe International Freight Express Railway was official put into operation, taking only 14 days from Chengdu to Europe. Such railway changes the global logistics and industry chains, indicating that more and more enterprises of countries along it can invest in Chengdu and Sichuan through this logistics channel.
With the constant upgrading of urban transportation and municipal planning, Chengdu makes great achievement in its industrial output. Taking the first half of 2013 as an example, during this period, Chengdu’s industrial economy developed stably and the whole city realized a regional GDP of RMB440.85 billion yuan, growing by 10.3% on year-on-year basis. The primary industry, the secondary and the tertiary industry respectively grew by RMB12.58, 207.4 and 220.87 billion yuan, increasing by 2.6%, 13.5% and 7.8%.
Note: The primary industry, the secondary industry and the tertiary industry respectively indicates agricultural industry, industrial industry & construction industry and other industries rather than the primary and the secondary industries.
Prospects
Chengdu is an open inland city and a comprehensive supporting reform pilot city which takes the lead in establishing socialistic marketing economical system. In the future, Chengdu will become the core growth pole of west China’s economy thus to make people and the city rich and prosperous. Industries will experience earth-shaking changes in three or four years. Therefore, four major bases of Chengdu including Hi-tech Industry Base, Modern Manufacturing Industry Base, Modern Service Industry Base and Modern Agricultural Industry Base are being improved and completed. In this way, it is believed that investors will have enough confidence and hope on Chengdu’s industry bases.
